BALL-JOINTED DOLL - WEEK ONE

This week, I printed all my parts using an FDM printer to get a better sense of size and scale. Although I like how my modeled parts look, I wasn’t happy with the overall scale of the doll and will reduce it from 1/3 to 1/4. I looked at the BJD I have at home and decided to use her as a reference since I like her proportions.

I also felt that the proportions were a bit off, with the hands being too small compared to the feet, so I will go back and resize them. The head also seems disproportionate, with a larger head compared to the face. My plan to fix this is to cut the back of the head off, resize it smaller, and reattach it to the face.

Additionally, I plan to add a locking system so the face and head slide into each other, but I might test this part out after getting the head to a stage I’m happy with. I want to tackle one goal at a time to avoid overwhelming myself. When I do get to this stage, I’ll use Rhino for precise measurements and then transfer the model into Nomad Sculpt.

Other than that, all the pieces fit together well, so I don’t need to make any adjustments for better fitting. I’m especially proud of how I modeled the hands, feet, and face.

Overall, I’m excited to keep refining this model and get it exactly where I want it to be!
