THE BESPOKE OBJECT REVISITED - WEEK 1 !

Old Vs. New Head

Magnet Holders Inside Head

This week, my goal was to fix the head sizing and adjust the chest. As I mentioned last week, I wasn’t happy with the head size- it felt too small compared to the rest of the body, making it look neither proportionate nor stylized. To address this, I rescaled the head and adjusted the head cap to be smoother and more rounded. The difference is subtle, but I like the result. I also readjusted the magnet holders from the old head into the new one to prevent any further issues. In my last print, there was a problem where the magnet holders didn’t print with enough depth, so this time, I added extra depth as a backup. I think this will work better as if the depth ends up being too much, I can always fill in the extra space with putty or UV resin.

For the chest, I also made adjustments to the neck. While assembling the doll, I had to sand it down more than expected because it didn’t fit properly. However, with the head now upscaled, that shouldn’t be an issue anymore. Regardless, I decided to smooth it slightly. Additionally, the back of the chest connection to the torso was an issue as it was set too far in and ended up breaking off with my original print.

To fix this, I took a picture of the back of the chest where it snapped off and imported it into Nomad Sculpt as a reference. Using the trim tool, I aligned my model with the image, then trimmed and smoothed out the excess material. The result looks much cleaner, especially when comparing the before-and-after images. I’m confident this adjustment will allow the torso piece to fit better, as I removed the flimsy sections that previously created issues.

Old Vs. New Chest

Next week, my goal is to start adjusting the arm joints. I plan to research different types of doll ball joints to understand how they function, then remodel the joints accordingly. I’ll do several FDM test prints to check the fit before finalizing the design and reprinting the necessary pieces in resin.
